A Positive Failure?

“To try and to fail is better than not trying at all” or so the old saying goes . . .

A little while ago I decided to try something new.

I was interested in Mixer, Microsoft’s proprietary streaming platform (formally known as Beam). A few of my Twitch friends, who had suffered ill fate at the hands of Twitch, moved over to Mixer and I was soon to learn of the platforms “Interactivity”, which was a big selling point for me as well as it’s almost non-existent latency (Know as FTL (Faster Than Light) protocol). I made the decision at the time to leave Twitch and stream solely over on Mixer, in the hope to build a new community, while allowing my current community to come and experience the new journey with me.

In the opening weeks, I found it was great. I was build followers and generally having fun. But something weird was happening . . . I was still gaining followers back on Twitch, despite not streaming there. This posed the question to me – Was I doing the right thing?

Determined to continue building on Mixer, I enlisted the help of Re-stream, a multi-stream platform where I could simul-stream to both Mixer and Twitch. After running with this for a couple of weeks the evidence was there for me, plain to see. Mixer just wasn’t working for me and all my viewers were coming to watch me on Twitch. In addition I noticed another issue. By streaming to the third party, latency was increased and some viewers were up to 20 seconds behind the stream. Given that one of the main reason for moving to Mixer in the first place was to decrease latency, this was becoming a frustration for me.

So as of today, Tuesday September 25th, I’ve decided to U-Turn on my decision and return to streaming on exclusively on Twitch. Whilst I would say Mixer hasn’t worked for me, I’ve also not been streaming as regularly as I’d like to, which isn’t a helping factor. But to try and build a new community in a new location when you can’t have a regular / solid streaming schedule just isn’t going to work. I have nothing against Mixer and still think it’s a fantastic platform, but if something isn’t working or isn’t quite right for you, you have to make changes.

I would like say a big thanks everyone in the Mixer Community who has helped and supported me in the setup and during my time streaming on the platform.  You Guys Rock!

In my view it’s better to try than wonder “What If” – NOCK

Trying Different Tunes – Live Set (Saturday 2nd September 2017)

2 posts in a single day . . . . what’s going on here?

So after my “Walking Dead” live-stream on Saturday night, I decided to head over to my other streaming channel on Twitch and do an improvised mix.  It was a bit of a mixed bag, some mixes sounded good, others were terrible (not to mention the point of the mix where I killed the wrong track).  At the end I did attempt a “David Guetta Mega Mix”, which I don’t think was too bad.

Anyway, I haven’t got a video version of the mix online anywhere, but I have uploaded the MP3 for anyone who would like to give it a listen.  As before, if any comments or feedback about the tunes or mixing style are appreciated. I am thinking about putting together a Year 2000 mix, of all the songs that were big, back in the say when I started going out clubbing (and yes, for anyone who is doing the maths, it was before I was 18 :P), so keep posted for that coming real soon.

Back to Life, Back to Reality

So I’m determined not to let the blog fall by the wayside already, so hopefully this post isn’t too random . . . .

As much as being on holiday is a good thing, as my wife always says you need to come home so you can go on the next one. Holiday is one of those times where you let loose and eat and drink like it’s going out of fashion. Which is great, but when you’re “naturally fat” like me, it just means extra work when you get home.

The truth is I really over indulged on holiday and ended up putting like a stone (14lbs on), totalling a whopping 16st 0.75lbs – something I’ve not weighed for ages. So I always knew that monday morning was going to be a time to get back on the diet, which me and Mrs Nock are always on, but there’s nothing worse than the thought of giving up all that yummy tasty food, while at the same time returning to a massive back log of work.

Getting back into normal routine wasn’t as hard as I thought actually, apart from the fact the gas lift on my chair was broken so I’ve had to sit almost on the floor all week, but I guess being so busy with work has meant that I’ve not had time to really think about snacking and eating. I’ve not even had the urge to head out to the garage and get a cheeky beer from the drinks fridge. I feel like I’ve come back from holiday refreshed and ready to buckle down with things. I’ve got back to streaming, which is missed, I’ve started new games and I’ve even pre-recorded a load of portal videos and completely cleared my queue (talk about organised).

So comes the dreaded day where you get on the scales and hope and pray that the week of sacrafice was worth it. And actually, I’m really happy. I lost 6 3/4 lbs which is fantastic. I’m fully aware that your first week back on a diet is always prone for a big weight loss but I needed that. I’ve been trying so hard to keep out of the 15st bracket so to quickly get out of the 16st is a god send.

I’m in the right mindset at the moment to get back into shape. 4 years ago I was training for a half marathon, and was the fittest I’ve ever been and weighed a lean 13st 11lb, so it would be nice to get back down to that area. I’m determined to get back out and start running again so watch this space and if you see me, make sure you nudge me and tell me to go for that run 🙂

Everyone’s been so supportive to me this week in streams and discord so thanks for the support. It’s great to know my community is supportive and misses me while I’m away. You guys are awesome 😉

Time for something new

Hi Guys and welcome along to the first post on my new look website.

As mentioned on the homepage, the number of times I’ve tried to keep my website up to date and failed is beyond me, however I’m ready to get back on the band wagon and give it another go. If you’re new around here, be sure to check out my other links where I stream upload videos and generally hang out with some amazing people.  Also check out my other pages on the site. I’m currently developing a “Sandbox” for Duskers can you’ll find all the info for that project on the Duskers Sandbox page.

Have fun – NOCK
